The story of hidden poverty found in rural Yorkshire recently made front page news. The Yorkshire Post shone a spotlight on this important issue in our region.
The article explores the jointly written report - Rural Lifelines - that seeks to expose the hidden poverty which lingers beneath rural Yorkshire’s “chocolate box” image and calls for more support for struggling communities. Rural Lifelines shows how much hidden poverty and isolation exists in rural areas and the importance of voluntary and community organisations which support both people and the rural economy.
Involve Yorkshire & Humber and our colleagues in Rural Action Yorkshire and Humber & Wolds Rural Community Council brought together some telling stories of just how the voluntary and community sector makes lives better - and how much this really is a lifeline.
